Four facts that shape every Dubai plan — get these right and the rest falls into place:
Best months: October–April
Comfortable weather runs roughly October to April; summer highs regularly top 40 °C (104 °F).
Currency: AED, about 3.67 to $1
The dirham is pegged to the US dollar, so roughly AED 3.67 = $1. Prices in this guide show rounded USD equivalents.
Metro + Nol card
The Red and Green lines cover the main tourist corridor. Grab a rechargeable Nol card and pair the metro with metered taxis for the rest.
Weekend is Saturday–Sunday
The UAE weekend is Saturday–Sunday; Friday is the holy day, with some places closing around midday prayer.

The clear standout — dune bashing, sandboarding, and an ATV run, then dinner under the stars. Nothing else in Dubai feels like it.

The world's tallest observation wheel is genuinely worth the ride for the scale of the Marina skyline alone — day or night.

Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to visit Dubai?
October through April is the comfortable window — daytime highs are generally in the 20s and low 30s °C (70s–90s °F). May through September is extremely hot, with highs regularly above 40 °C (104 °F). Ramadan dates shift each year and affect daytime dining and some attractions, so check the calendar for your travel year.
How many days do you need in Dubai?
Five days covered the highlights comfortably on my March 2025 trip: Downtown (Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Souk Al Bahar), Old Dubai (Al Seef, Dubai Creek, Dubai Frame), a full desert safari day, and a theme park day. Three full days works for the essentials if you skip the parks; seven lets you add day trips.
Is the Museum of the Future open?
Check the official website before visiting — the museum has had periods of closure around a 2026 revamp, and status can change. I'll be honest: it was my one skip in March 2025. If it's open during your trip and you love futuristic exhibits, it's worth a look — but don't build your itinerary around it.
Is Dubai expensive?
It can be, but the range is wide. Many headline attractions run from around AED 100–200 (roughly $27–55, at about AED 3.67 to $1) — always check current prices on official sites. The metro is cheap, taxis are metered and plentiful, and street food and mall food courts keep food costs reasonable if you plan for them.
Is the metro or a taxi better for getting around Dubai?
Both. The Red and Green metro lines (pay with a rechargeable Nol card) cover the main tourist corridor efficiently — airport, Downtown, the Marina. Taxis are metered, air-conditioned, and easy to find for everywhere the metro doesn't reach. I used both on my 5-day visit.
